have you ever noticed (after removing the bracelet) that some Rolexes are engraved with 'REGISTERED DESIGN', others say 'ORIG ROLEX DESIGN' while a number of Rolexes have neither wording engraved on the watchcase between the lugs?
Here's the serial and the reference engravings, along with the somewhat mysterious and not period proper "orig rolex design ". I like the fonts on the serial and, again, corresponds perfectly to the caseback date inscription and the movement within. The only problem I see is the "Orig. Rolex Design" engraving is missing. Here are a load of pics when I bought this. Tell me if any of you can spot signs that I missed.
Or, did Rolex keep some of these new cases with the ORIG ROLEX DESIGN already engraved on them, and then the new engraving at a different time was the model and serial, both, which would explain the mismatched look? I finally got the bracelet off.I'm terrified its fake now. there is no serial number between the 6 o'clock lugs, all it says is "stainless steal" and between the 12 o'clock lugs it says "orig rolex design" and under it says "216570".
I just purchased a R serial 168000 submariner for myself and I noticed the “ORIG ROLEX DESIGN” text ontop of the reference number is slightly to the left compared to other ones I’ve seen. The 1 is right under and between the R and O; the last 0 is between the G and N. I’m wondering if Rolex ever produced a datejust without Orig Rolex Desgin above the reference number My father gave me a 1980 datejust 16030 that he’s had for a long time, and when I was taking the band off today I noticed it didn’t say that above the reference number. After some research, I came across your website and now I’m pretty sure it’s a real Rolex. I did all the search of all number at a watch store. Here is what I came up with. There is a something that said a Stainless Steel with a F714983 number. Then there is a CL72200 number one side and Orig Rolex Design 116268. What should I do with it? My GMT 1957 has no Registered Design or Orig Rolex Design singed between lugs. There is a serial number on the other side of lugs 262xxx which will match on 1957. On my research, there was a term when ROLEX did not have Registered Design / Orig Rolex Design signs from 1980-1982 / ref# 6.2 million to 7.0 million but it does not apply on my gmat..
1985 (8.8M) should definitely have the Orig Rolex Design, IMO. Perhaps it is just obscured by end-link wear. Here's one that passed through my hands earlier this year. have you ever noticed (after removing the bracelet) that some Rolexes are engraved with 'REGISTERED DESIGN', others say 'ORIG ROLEX DESIGN' while a number of Rolexes have neither wording engraved on the watchcase between the lugs?
